Jill Grifenhagen
Bio
Dr. Jill Grifenhagen is an Associate Professor in Literacy Education at NC State University’s College of Education. Dr. Grifenhagen’s research focuses on early language and literacy development, with a particular interest in academic vocabulary and language learning fostered by classroom practice. Her work further explores preparation and support to improve teacher practices in language and literacy, including teacher preparation and coaching professional development. Her scholarship has been published in journals including Reading Research Quarterly, Teaching and Teacher Education, Early Childhood Research Quarterly, Journal of Child Language, and The Reading Teacher. Dr. Grifenhagen earned a B.A. in Sociology and Religious Studies from UNC Chapel Hill, an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Boston College, and a Ph.D. in Learning, Teaching, and Diversity from Vanderbilt University. She currently teaches literacy methods to undergraduate, pre-service elementary teachers, and courses in research and leadership to graduate students in literacy.
