Transforming Our Understanding
Research in the College of Education is transforming our understanding of a range of topics, from K-12 classroom advances to literacy training and education policy to teacher evaluation. With support from the National Science Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and other partners, we’re making discovers that will reshape education in America, from the classroom to the halls of Congress.
Two-thirds of our tenure-track faculty are leading research, serving as principal investigators, co-principal investigators or senior personnel on sponsored projects. Their work crosses disciplinary lines: in addition to studies of educational theory and practice, they partner with researchers elsewhere at NC State and around the world on projects in the sciences, engineering, humanities and social sciences, design and more.

Supporting the Research Lifecycle
Transformational research relies on a solid foundation. The College of Education has built a robust research infrastructure to help faculty find funding, plan their budgets, identify and connect with partners.
Our faculty have access to the tools to see a project through, from initial proposal to final publication:
The Friday Institute
Building the Future
At the heart of our boundary-pushing research is the William & Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation. With $20 million in active research grants, the Friday Institute is developing the next-generation education workforce, designing and testing new classroom technologies, bringing innovation to rural areas, and improving how we establish education policies and evaluate their results.
