Bio

Catherine Fowler joined Elevate, NC State’s inclusive postsecondary program for college students with intellectual and developmental disabilities as the Program Director in August, 2025. Dr. Fowler has developed resources, delivered training, and provided technical assistance to state and local agencies throughout all of the U.S. states and territories on effective college, career, and community preparation practices for students with disabilities through projects funded at UNC Charlotte since 2006. Prior to working at the university, she was a classroom teacher for students with autism and intellectual disabilities in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, and an early intervention specialist in Mecklenburg County. Her work has focused on developing the self-determination skills and opportunities for children and young adults with disabilities and identifying opportunities for collaboration between professionals serving individuals with disabilities and services and supports for all students and youth.
