Passport to Success

The Passport to Success Program is an academic enrichment and student engagement program for teacher education majors that enables students to more fully integrate the curricular and co-curricular aspects of NC State’s teacher education programs. Teacher education students are given the ability to design targeted “outside of the classroom” experiences that enhance what they learn inside the classroom.

The Passport to Success Program was designed in alignment with the NC Professional Teaching Standards and is focused on four key themes: Global Knowledge, Community Engagement, Cross Cultural Skills and Professional Development.  Ultimately, the objective is for NC State teacher education majors to graduate with a more comprehensive learning experience that will better prepare them for 21st century classrooms.  Students majoring in a teacher education programing the College of Education, the College of Humanities & Social Sciences and the College of Agricultural & Life Sciences  can apply.

A unique feature of the Passport to Success Program is the collaboration between College of Education faculty and staff who serve as “Passport Mentors” for the program participants. Passport Mentors are there to guide the participants along their journey and assist scholars with tracking their progress using their Passport Blog. This presents Passport students with a special chance to build strong relationships with faculty and staff in the College. Ultimately, the program provides NC State teacher education majors with the opportunity to engage in an array of experiences, preparing them to meet the evolving needs of 21st century students, classrooms, and schools.
