Increase your capacity to teach reading, English or social studies through the New Literacies and Global Learn Program, which helps educators develop instruction techniques that best enable their students to learn and communicate in an environment with technology that is constantly changing. Choose from one of five master’s degree programs and explore best practices and innovative instructional strategies that will enable you to maximize your impact and emerge as a content leader in your area of choice.
To apply, you will need to submit transcripts from all universities previously attended (with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0), a personal statement, a current resume, and three letters of recommendation. We do not require GRE scores or entrance exams for these programs. In your personal statement, describe your professional interests and experiences that prepare you for a graduate degree in the concentration area. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the deadline for me to submit my application?
March 1 is the preferred deadline for acceptance to the Fall semester, but we will accept applications until July 1.
Are the classes online or face-to-face?
We consider our program to be a hybrid degree. Most classes will be online but some will be face-to-face at an off-campus site.
Will I automatically receive a teaching license when I complete this program?
No, the NC Department of Public Instruction is the licensing body in North Carolina. This program does not lead to an initial teaching license. Contact the CED Licensure Coordinator, Paige Goos, for questions about applying for graduate level licensure. This office is in 515 Poe Hall Office, 919.513-2682, pegoos@ncsu.edu.
If I do not have teaching experience, can I still apply for the program?
We expect that our applicants have an initial teaching license in order to enter our program. We encourage applicants to teach before entering the graduate program since we think the coursework is more meaningful if you already have teaching experience. We do, however, have some students who enter the program directly from their undergraduate programs with only their student teaching experience.
