College of Education Short Term Study Abroad Programs
Student Teaching Abroad Complete part of your student teaching experience in another country! Participants will spend the first 10 weeks of their final semester student teaching in their North Carolina placement classroom, and the final 4-5 weeks teaching at one of our three partner schools in Russia, China, or Brazil. Czech Republic - Prague Institute Spend the summer in Prague taking education course work taught by NC State University faculty members. Summer 2012 course offerings include EDP 304/EDP 504 Educational Psychology/Advanced Educational Psychology and EDP 560/ED 507/ELM 350 Educational Testing and Measurement/Principles of Developing and Interpreting Assessment/Assessment of Learning and Behavior. Costa Rica - Cultural Immersion in Costa Rica This 10-day program to Costa Rica is ideal for teacher education students and NC Teaching Fellows, but all others are welcome to apply. Experience Costa Rica through the schools, economy, geography, and culture. This immersion includes school visits, volunteering, co-op tours within the economic structure, home stay, and team building. Part of the experience includes residing at a research station in a part of the rain forest. Participants will grow as a community and appreciate the culture through first-hand experiences. There will be preparation seminars prior to the departure and follow-up. The experience will include a zip line tour, white water rafting and site seeing the natural beauty of Costa Rica. Particants will teach a mini-lesson and engage in cultural event. This experience is geared for first time participants to study abroad. To apply, visit the program website. Honduras -Counselor Education in Honduras
Visit Honduras for a 12-day summer program focused on Counselor Education. This program has been designed with the purpose of providing learning opportunities that will prepare counseling professionals for their roles as multi-culturally competent counselors, educators, leaders, and advocates for social justice. The program constitutes a comprehensive cultural immersion experience that promotes self awareness, mutual understanding and reflection beyond traditional pedagogical methods currently employed in the Counselor Education Program. It provides a multi-lens view of the counseling field in terms of diversity, cultural and social differences, knowledge, and practice. Hence, the objectives of the program spotlight the 3 major components of higher education: education, research, and service. To apply, visit the program website. England - Integrating Writing and Technology at Surrey University This study abroad opportunity blends academic and experiential learning. Participants not only study current research and theory in the teaching of writing, they experience every aspect of the writing process approach through daily writing and 21st century technology. Participants will visit literary and historical sites and use these to prompt their writing. The course is open to K-12 teachers, prospective teachers, all content areas, and anyone interested in writing! Learn more and view the scholarship application.

National Student ExchangeExchange at one of over 190 campuses throughout the United States at in-state tuition rates! As a member of the National Student Exchange Program (NSE), NC State University provides opportunities for full-time undergraduate students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher to exchange for a semester or an academic year. Interested students should apply before February 1 of each year so that placements can be made at participating universities for the following academic year. Full details about the application process and participating campuses are available on NC State's NSE website. As an education major, the National Student Exchange gives you the opportunity to continue your education studies while experiencing diverse educational systems in the United States and Puerto Rico. Alternative Service Break TripsCSLEPS's Alternative Service Break (ASB) trip program is a unique service-learning experience in which students engage in direct service to a community, while being immersed in the culture and customs of that community. Teams are led by student team leaders and accompanied by faculty advisors. Throughout the trip, team members participate in a variety of cultural, educational, recreational and reflective activities to enhance their service experience. Trips are offered over NCSU's fall, winter, and spring breaks. Education-related trips are offered to Alaska, the Dominican Republic, and New Mexico.
