We are currently accepting applicants for our next cohort that will complete the program in 2 years. The cohort program will be fully online and will include two courses each semester including one summer session.

To apply, you will need to submit transcripts from all universities previously attended (with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0), a personal statement, a current resume, and three letters of recommendation. We do not require GRE scores or entrance exams for this program. About the Program

WHY: Ensuring reading proficiency for the students of North Carolina has never been more important. The College of Education at NC State University is pleased to announce a cohort-based sequence of courses centered around developing teacher content and pedagogical knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction.

WHAT: The sequence of literacy education courses acknowledges the complexity of reading instruction and the diverse needs of our young readers. To address these challenges, course topics include implementing diagnostic assessments and interventions aligned with the science of reading, solving problems of practice in reading education, cultivating digital and global perspectives on literacy learning, researching effective schoolwide reading programs and practices, and developing leadership in literacy education.

WHO: This cohort is targeted for educators interested in a program designed to improve our understanding of struggling and developing readers. This includes a focus on high-impact pedagogical techniques for teaching reading in the classroom and intervention settings, a critical understanding of how to use and interpret reading assessment data, and opportunities to develop and sharpen leadership capacity in literacy education. We encourage classroom teachers, coaches, special educators, interventionists, and administrators to apply for this cohort.

“There are always those students that we try different things to best meet their needs. So I really enjoyed being able to dialogue and problem solve together with my cohort and the faculty [through this program].”
