Margaret Raynor ’79

Margaret Raynor joined the College of Education Board in 2018. She holds a master’s degree in education with a focus on adult education from the NC State College of Education and a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
She began her career as a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UNC Hospital and as an aftercare nurse at the Wake County Mental Health Center. She later held positions as a nursing education nurse, director of staff development and medical education, director of standards, and coordinator of medical education, including serving as an adjunct professor at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine.
She is currently retired but works on contract as a nurse consultant at Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
Margaret is the coordinator of fundraising and a member of the Chancellor’s Philanthropic CommitUNC-Chapel Hill and served two terms as president of the Foundation Board there. She is active with the Alumni Associations of both UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State.
Additionally, she participates in Philanthropic Education Organization, which provides educational grants, loans, awards, special projects and other support to women worldwide.
Margaret’s philanthropic interests include mental health, food security, and adequate healthcare with a focus on prevention. She enjoys time with family and friends, her cats, going to the beach, and traveling.
