Program Description
The Master of Science (M.S.) program with a concentration in Science Education is a 36-credit-hour, thesis-based, on-campus program with a strong emphasis on pedagogical content knowledge, disciplinary content knowledge and technological innovation in mathematics education. The M.S. in STEM program is designed to enhance the knowledge and skill set of experienced formal (e.g., middle or high school teacher, college instructor) and informal science educators (e.g. work at a museum or aquarium, or informal space). This degree will give you opportunities to work with renowned experts in many facets of science education research and practice. Graduates can attend full or part-time, complete a thesis, and will be prepared for new leadership roles in their field. Those who enjoy research may continue on with a Ph.D. program in Science Education.
What can graduates do with a master’s in Science Education?
Our M.S. graduates serve as STEM Coordinators, hold leadership roles in their departments in secondary schools, teach or hold leadership roles at community colleges, hold curriculum positions at the Department of Public Instruction, and serve in leadership roles at informal institutions such as museums and aquariums.

- It is highly recommended that applicants have an undergraduate degree that includes a science major or at least 24 hours of sciences in their undergraduate background
