Transformational Scholars
The Transformational Scholarships Program is a need-based scholarship program that prepares exceptional high school students from Eastern North Carolina to make a lasting impact in their home communities as highly effective teachers and leaders. Through North Carolina’s No. 1 ranked college of education, Transformational Scholars engage in field experiences, summer work, student teaching and other opportunities in Eastern North Carolina that equip them to return to the region to teach after completing their undergraduate degree.
“The program has opened doors to opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise.”

The Transformational Scholarships Program launched in summer 2021 to provide students from Eastern North Carolina with need-based scholarships thanks to a generous charitable grant from the Anonymous Trust. The eligible counties for Transformational Scholars are the following: Beaufort, Bertie, Bladen, Chowan, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Duplin, Edgecombe, Gates, Greene, Halifax, Hertford, Hoke, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Nash, Northampton, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Pitt, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Tyrrell, Washington, Wayne, and Wilson.
“Without the financial support of the Transformational Scholarships Program, I probably would not have been able to attend NC State. Programs like these that recruit teachers and help them pay for college are really important because they show pre-service teachers that someone believes in them.”
