Internal Scholarship Opportunities
Each college at NC State offers scholarship opportunities to students enrolled in its academic programs. To apply for scholarships with the colleges listed below, visit go.ncsu.edu/packassist. The application opens on December 1. New students can apply once admitted to the university. Learn more about the application process here.
- Continuing undergraduate students can begin their application on December 1.
- New freshmen and transfer students who have been admitted to NC State on or prior to the January 30 admission notification can begin their application on February 1. Priority consideration is given to students who complete their application by February 15th. Because there are many applicants, the Scholarship Committee begins their review immediately so applicants are encouraged to apply upon notification of their acceptance to North Carolina State University.
College of Education scholarships are usually offered to freshman following decisions about the Park Scholarships and other University-wide scholarships
Transformational Scholarships Program
Transformational Scholars are future teachers who…
- Receive $10,000 per year in scholarship support for up to four years, in addition to funds that support professional development such as study abroad and conference participation
- Participate in field experiences, summer work, student teaching and other activities that equip them to return to Eastern North Carolina to work as teachers after completing their undergraduate degree
- Receive direct mentoring from College of Education faculty and education leaders living and working in Eastern North Carolina, including graduates of NC State’s Leadership Academies (NELA)
- Develop lifelong relationships through a cohort model where Transformational Scholars will support and be supported by the same group of peers over their time in the program
Study Abroad Scholarship
The College of Education encourages our students to take advantage of the opportunity to study education outside of the United States and has recently instituted a new Study Abroad Scholarship to support our students’ efforts. The scholarships range from $500 to $1000. The following criteria will be considered by the scholarship review committee in selecting award recipients:
- Student’s first major must be in the College of Education.
- Student must be enrolled full-time.
- Student must have completed two semesters in CED by time of travel.
- Student must have a 3.0 GPA at time of application (3.5 GPA for graduate students)
- Preference will be given to students who have actively participated in CED clubs and organizations.
CED graduate students may also apply for this award if they have a 3.5 GPA or higher and are enrolled full time. Scholarship recipients are required to share knowledge gained through their study abroad experience with CED students upon return through a presentation, written piece or other activity agreed upon with the CED study abroad coordinator.

Harry Lee Bowling Endowed Scholarship
- Provides scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled or accepted in the College of Education.
- Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need.
- Renewable if the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress.
- Recipients are selected by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
William T. and Jean V. Brady Scholarship
- Awarded to undergraduate students in the College of Education
- Recipients are selected on the basis of need and merit.
Cato Teacher Education Scholarship
Provides scholarships to two students who exhibit a strong work ethic and have had prior meaningful employment.
- Recipients are selected on the basis of financial need.
- Recipients are expected to do volunteer service while at NCSU.
The Elois and Allie Mack Clayton Scholarship
- Provides a need based scholarship to a student who is majoring in Mathematics or Science Education in the College of Education.
- Selection will be on the basis of academic excellence and
- Demonstrated financial need.
- If there are no need based students in the Mathematics or Science Education, the scholarship is to be awarded to an undergraduate student in the College of Education.
- The scholarship may be renewed on the basis of academic excellence and provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress as determined by the University.
*John L. Crow and John R. Jenkins Scholarship Endowment
- Awarded to students in the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics Education.
- Preference to undergraduates majoring in Technology, Engineering & Design Education Recipients are selected on the basis of need and merit.
College of Education Leadership Scholarship
- Provides scholarships for first-year and transfer students from diverse backgrounds.
- Preference is for students with demonstrated leadership and special achievement through high school and community service.
College of Education Student Scholarship
- Provides scholarship(s) for undergraduate student(s) enrolled or accepted in any undergraduate program in the College of Education.
P.H.Cooper Scholarship
- Provides scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Education.
- Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need.
- Awards are for one year but may be renewable if the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress.
Directors Scholarship
- Provides a scholarship to a student enrolled or accepted in any undergraduate program in the College of Education.
- Selection of the award recipient will be based on academic excellence, demonstrated need and leadership through extracurricular achievements.
- The student must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher, a combined SAT score of 1100 with a verbal and mathematical minimum score no less than 500, and/or an ACT score of 23 or greater.
- Preference will be given to, but not limited to, a North Carolina resident.
- The award may be renewed provided the student maintains at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
Charles W. “Chuck” & Nadine P. Edwards Endowed Scholarship
- Provides a scholarship to student(s) accepted or enrolled in the College of Education.
- Recipients are selected on the basis of need and merit.
- Renewable if an overall 3.0 GPA is maintained.
Charles W. “Chuck” & G. Nadine P. Edwards Excellence Scholarship
- Provides scholarships for students in Math, Science and Technology Education, Counselor Education or other curricula in the College of Education.
- Recipient(s) are selected on the basis of need and merit.
- Scholarships may be renewed provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Margaret & Tanya Gayle Elementary Education Scholarship
- Provides a scholarship to a first-year student accepted or enrolled in the Elementary Education curriculum.
- Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need, leadership and extracurricular achievements.
- A personal interview by the scholarship committee is required.
- The student must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher, a combined SAT score of 1200 with a verbal and mathematical minimum score no less than 500, and/or an ACT score of 23 or greater.
- Renewable provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Jerry and Elizabeth Godwin Scholarship
- Provides scholarships for freshmen enrolling in the College of Education who are majoring in Mathematics Education.
- Selection will be on the basis of academic excellence with need as a consideration.
- Renewable provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress as determined by the University.
Paul and Geneva Jenkins Scholarship
This scholarship was established to Honor Dr. Estelle White and Raymond Edwards.
- Awarded to undergraduate students in the College of Education.
- Based on merit with financial need as a consideration.
John T., Sr. and Marie Kanipe Endowment Scholarship
- Provides scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Education who demonstrate financial need.
Eileen and J. Bryant Kirkland Endowed Agricultural Scholarship
- Provides scholarship support to a student accepted or enrolled in an Agricultural Education curriculum.
- Selection is based on academic excellence, leadership and extracurricular achievements.
- Recipient must be a U.S. citizen.
- Renewable provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 GPA.
Eileen and J. Bryant Kirkland Endowed Scholarship
- Provides scholarship support to a student enrolled or accepted in the College of Education.
- Selection is based on academic excellence, leadership and extracurricular achievements.
- Recipient must be a U.S. citizen.
- Renewable provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 GPA.
J. Bryant Kirkland Merit Endowed Scholarship
- Provides scholarships for students enrolled or accepted in any undergraduate curriculum in the College of Education.
- Selection will be based on academic excellence, leadership and extracurricular achievements.
- Recipient must be a U.S. citizen.
- Renewable provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 GPA.
Bryan Edward Knox Scholarship Endowment
- Provides an undergraduate academic scholarship to a student accepted or enrolled in the College of Education.
- Renewable on the basis of good academic standing and demonstrated financial need.
Sara Lee Multimedia Technology Education Endowment
- Provides a scholarship to a technology education undergraduate student in the College of Education.
- Renewable on the basis of good academic standing and demonstrated financial need.
John, Rebecca and Drew Logan Scholarship
- Provides undergraduate scholarship to full-time student(s) who wish to become teachers with demonstrated merit through a genuine passion for lifelong learning, and demonstrated passion for children.
- Special consideration given to undergraduates who have experiences and interest in student with learning disabilities.
- Renewable provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Moshakos Family Teacher Education Scholarships
- Provides a scholarship to a student enrolled or accepted into an undergraduate teacher education curriculum within the College of Education.
- Renewable for four years based on academic eligibility. Preference for this scholarship will be given to residents of Wake County.
- Provides a scholarship to a rising junior enrolled or accepted into a teacher education curriculum within the College of Education.
- Renewable based on academic eligibility. Preference for this scholarship will be given to residents of Wake County.
Frank I. Murray, Jr. Scholarship
- Provides a scholarship to outstanding undergraduate students with demonstrated leadership potential accepted or enrolled in the College of Education.
- Applicants should have a 3.5 or higher high school GPA with a verbal or mathematical minimum score no less than 500; and or an ACT score of 23 or greater.
- Consideration of applicants shall be limited to North Carolina resident(s), and preference shall be given, but not limited to, student(s) from rural western North Carolina.
- Renewable provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Diana G. and James L. Oblinger Scholarship
- Provides scholarships to full-time undergraduate students majoring in Mathematics Education or Science Education.
- This scholarship is merit-based.
- Renewable for full-time students who maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Recipient must be a North Carolina resident.
Clarence Poe Endowed Scholarship
- Provides a scholarship to a student(s) enrolled or accepted in any undergraduate curriculum in the College of Education.
- Selection will be on the basis of academic excellence, leadership and extracurricular achievements.
- Recipient must be a North Carolina resident.
Progress Energy MSTE Education Endowment
- Provides a scholarship to an undergraduate student who is a future middle school teacher of Mathematics, Science or Technology.
- This merit-based scholarship is renewable for full-time students who maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
Replogle Family Scholarship
- Scholarship to be given to a student pursuing a degree in the College of Education.
- Awarded based on merit and/or financial need, with the intention of helping students fulfill their higher education goals.
Suzanne Montague Ridgill Memorial Scholarship
- Provides scholarships to one or more sophomores, juniors and/or seniors in Elementary Education.
- Preference is given to students who have expressed an interest in someday pursuing a graduate degree in Special Education.
- Recipients are selected on the basis of financial need.
Lillian Ruth Rupard Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2003 in memory of Lillian Ruth Rupard of Brookshire, Texas.
- Provides scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Education with demonstrated financial need.
- Scholarships are renewable based upon financial eligibility and good academic standing.
- Recipients are selected by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
Marvin Bradley Smith Scholarship
- Provides scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled or accepted in the College of Education.
- Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need.
- Renewable if the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress.
- Recipients are selected by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
Ruth L. and Herbert E. Speece Scholarship
- Provides scholarships to juniors and/or seniors majoring in mathematics education or science education in the College of Education.
- Selection will be on the basis of academic excellence and demonstrated financial need.
- Renewable provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Dorothy E. and Robert W. Tart, Jr. Scholarship Endowment
- Provides scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Education.
- Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need.
- Awards are for one year and may be renewed based on continued financial need and satisfactory academic progress.
*Charles R. Tomkins III Scholarship Endowment
- Provides scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled or accepted in the College of Education.
- Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need and with the intention of helping students of all academic ability fulfill their highest education goals.
Randall and Susan Ward Education Scholarship
- Provides scholarships to full-time undergraduate students who wish to become teachers.
- This scholarship is based on demonstrated merit through a genuine passion for lifelong learning and demonstrated passion for children as shown through high school extracurricular, community activities and continued involvement during their undergraduate studies.
- Renewable for full-time undergraduate students who maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
*Ward Family Scholarship Endowment
- Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in College of Education pursuing a K-12 teaching position
- Awarded to incoming students.
- Must be legal residents of North Carolina.
- Preference for financial need and for students who wish to teach in public schools in North Carolina.
Dr. Estelle E. White Endowed Scholarship
- Awarded to undergraduate students in the College of Education.
- Recipients are selected on the basis of financial need and merit.
Robert J. Fenton Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Robert J. Fenton.
- Awarded to undergraduate students in the College of Education who are current or former residents of New Jersey.
- Recipients are selected on the basis of financial need.
- Recipients are selected by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
