NC Teach World Languages

NC TEACH helps professionals clear their Residency License. All candidates must be teaching before starting the program.

NC TEACH classes are online and one Saturday per month. The affordable program is part-time and consists of 6 education classes or 18 credits completed in 3 semesters that can be started in either Spring or Summer.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible to teach a world language and be eligible for NC TEACH, you will need:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited
    college or university with at least a 2.70 minimum GPA
  2. To pass the Praxis II in French or Spanish

NOTE: These are requirements for initial eligibility and to quality for a Residency License. In order to obtain full licensure, candidates must have 24 hours in addition to the Praxis II before applying for licensure.

Note: No specific coursework is required to teach French or Spanish.

Specialty Requirements

French Licensure Applicants:

  • All applicants must take and pass the Praxis II test in French with a score of 162 prior to applying for NC TEACH
  • The test code for French: World Language is 5174
  • No specific coursework is required

Spanish Licensure Applicants:

  • All applicants must take and pass the Praxis II test in Spanish with a score of 168 OR the ACTFL Spanish prior to applying for NC TEACH
  • The test code for Spanish: World Language is 5195
  • No specific coursework is required

Chinese Licensure Applicants:

  • All applicants must score an intermediate high on the ACTFL Chinese.

Semester I (Summer start or Spring start ONLY – there is no Fall Start)

  • ECI 471 (Spring): Educational Implications of Learning and Developmental Theory
  • ECI 472 (Spring): Interaction of Classroom Management and Instruction

Semester II (Fall)

  • ECI 473: Subject-Specific Methods
  • ECI 474: Curriculum and Instruction Practices I

Semester III (Spring)

  • ECI 475: Peer Mentoring in Alternative Licensure
  • ECI 476: Curriculum and Instruction Practices II

Praxis II

All candidates must pass the Praxis II before applying for full licensure. This exam can be taken while enrolled in NC TEACH.
