PD 6707 – William C. Friday Award: Molly Barker

October 27, 2022 | 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

NC State University’s Park Scholarships Class of 2023 will present the 24th Annual William C. Friday Award to Molly Barker. Barker was selected by the Class of 2023 for her outstanding activism and social entrepreneurship.

About Molly Barker: Molly is best known as the founder of Girls on the Run International, the self-esteem, youth-development, and healthy lifestyle program, for third- to eighth-grade girls. She started Girls on the Run International, in 1996, with 13 girls in Charlotte, NC. Since then, the program has inspired over 2.5 million girls to know and activate their limitless potential. As a four-time Hawaiian Ironman triathlete competitor, Barker’s running career started when she was 15-years-old. She claims running saved her life and allowed her to make a difference. She has published four books on self-esteem and respect in young girls and has given multiple TEDx talks. Barker is dedicated to speaking out about societal boundaries and coined the phrase “The Girl Box,” the place girls are put by society’s cultural stereotypes, which limit their opportunities.
