PD 587 – CCC #7 BRAVING in the Academy: How to establish trust when it’s been broken

September 27, 2022 | 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

In doing anti-racist work, people will likely make mistakes along the way as we grapple with different ways of thinking, being, and knowing. Making mistakes can have harmful consequences, including breaking trust. Trust is a part of the foundation of community. Without trust, it is difficult for people to show up and participate in space and place in healthy holistic ways. Further, coming back into the community after making a mistake matters and should be done authentically and with an ethic of care. Saying “I am sorry” is a start, but now quite enough if we want to engage in collective work as allies and accomplices. This conversation will highlight Brene Brown’s anatomy of trust as a guide for understanding how to rebuild trust once it has been broken. We will use role-play to practice BRAVING the academy.
