PD 582 – Courageous Community Conversation # 3 – The Importance of Self Care when Doing Anti-Racist Work

November 16, 2021 | 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The final courageous conversation for the semester will focus on taking care of ourselves while engaging in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. DEI work is taxing and evokes emotional responses that can be stressful for those regularly involved in the work. To sustain ourselves while doing justice work, we must take care of ourselves in the process to increase our longevity and long-term health, and success. For this conversation, we will invite scholars from the counselor education program to engage with students, faculty, and staff about the emotional stress associated with doing anti-racist work and the importance of self-care. The goal is for us to engage in conversation to explore strategies, create a self-care plan for ourselves, and hold each other accountable.
