Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I participate in this program?

Students who participate will engage in high-impact, unique co-curricular activities (such as  undergraduate research, community service in local schools, cross-cultural experiences, etc.) that  enhance their learning in the classroom and provide opportunities for personal and professional  growth.

The Passport to Success Program will encourage participants to develop leadership,  professionalism, global awareness, cultural competency and community awareness skills that are  sought-after in today’s job market.

What are the benefits of participation?

Students will:

  • Receive a Passport to Success honorary cord to wear at graduation upon completion of the program
  • Be assigned a Passport Mentor who will be a source of support and encouragement throughout the program
  • Participate in special “Passport Scholar” activities that will enable them to grow professionally and personally

What are the requirements to complete the program?

To attain the Passport Scholar designation, students must complete 12 or more experiences in total. Students will need to complete one signature experience per theme. The Passport Scholars website will list various activities and signature experiences from which students can choose.  See Passport to Success Program Event List below. Students may also design their own experience (must consult with their mentor for approval).

How do I track my events?

Students use SAGE in MyPackPortal to log their events.

Can I still participate if I am a transfer student?

Yes! The Passport program requires that students complete 12 experiences and is designed to be completed in about 1.5 to 2 years. Transfer students to teacher education majors can still participate.

Who can apply?

Passport to Success is open to students in teacher education programs.  The program is best suited for those who have 1.5-2 years left before graduation to ensure there is time to complete the program.  Students also need a minimum of 2.75 GPA in order to apply.

How do I apply?

The deadline to apply is in November (the specific deadline will be announced in the fall). To apply, students should complete the online application and submit one letter of recommendation. Students will be notified in late November if they have been selected.
