Why NC State?

I chose to attend NC State because I felt like I was a part of the community from the time that I interviewed. The faculty and staff members have been extremely supportive in helping me realize and achieve my goals. I also chose the counseling program because it gives me the opportunity to become licensed as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the future and provides me with field experience during my time in school.

One insight gained so far…

Despite being in my first year of the program, I feel as if I have grown significantly in my multicultural awareness. I have been challenged to explore my own identity and biases that I hold and what those things mean for me as a future professional. The graduate program has created a space in which my classmates and I can have conversations regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion without feeling uncomfortable. This program has taught me to question stereotypes, not view cultural groups as monoliths, and to value differences.
