Courageous Conversations in Community Series

The College of Education’s Task Force for Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion collaborated with others across the college to hold the Courageous Conversations in Community Series in 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. The series invited faculty, staff and students from across the college to discuss topics together that foster greater awareness and understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion. Many of the events listed below were held in partnership with the college’s Council on Multicultural Initiatives & Diversity (COMID).

Spring 2023 Events

Fall 2022 Events

Held on Sept. 27, in collaboration with COMID, the session was facilitated by Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professor and Senior Advisor for Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Joy Gaston Gayles.

Held on Oct. 25, 2022, in collaboration with COMID, this session was facilitated by Dr. Tenisha Tevis, an associate professor at Oregon State University.

Held on March 22, 2022, in collaboration with COMID, this session was led by Angelique Davis, JD, professor of political science at Seattle University, and Rose Ernst, Ph.D., an academic consultant.

Fall 2021 Events

Held on Sept. 28, 2021, in collaboration with COMID, this session featured  Paula McAvoy, Ph.D., and Crystal Chen Lee, Ed.D., along with College of Education alum and teacher John Hensley.

Held on Oct. 15, 2021, in collaboration with COMID, this session featured David Gillborn – emeritus professor of critical race studies, and the conversation was moderated by College of Education faculty members Jessica DeCuir-Gunby, Ph.D., and Anna Egalite, Ph.D.
