Associate Professor Cesar Delgado Named Associate Editor for Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Joins Editorial Board of International Journal of Science Education

NC State College of Education Associate Professor Cesar Delgado

NC State College of Education Associate Professor Cesar Delgado has been named an associate editor for the Journal of Research in Science Teaching and invited to join the editorial board of the International Journal of Science Education

As an associate editor for the Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Delgado will be responsible for coordinating reviews for submitted papers, synthesizing them in publication letters to authors and recommending publication decisions to editors.

“Together, these two appointments mean that I will play a role in the development of the scholarship in my field, and that my review work is being recognized and seen as being useful to authors and thus to the journals and the field,” Delgado said.

Delgado began reviewing journals, in collaboration with his advisor, when he was a doctoral student and was named a Publons Top Peer Reviewer in 2019 for ranking among the top 1% of social sciences reviewers.

Though reviewing takes a significant amount of time, he said the process helps him to keep up with the most current developments in the science education field. He is most interested in research surrounding student learning, but also interested in seeing more research on areas including teacher learning, curriculum development and evaluation, and equity.

“I think science education research is a critically important field for the development of the country and beyond, as improving science education will lead to more informed citizens in a world where science and technology are changing rapidly, as well as contributing to the formation of future scientists,” Delgado said. “Peer review is at the heart of the scientific enterprise and the way in which science monitors its own development and controls the quality of its products.”
