U.S. News’ 2024-2025 Best Global Universities: NC State #60 in the World, #1 in NC in Education and Educational Research Category 

NC State University has been ranked No. 60 in the world in the education and educational research category in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2024-2025 Best Global Universities Subject Rankings, making it the top globally ranked university for this field of study in North Carolina. Among universities just in the U.S., NC State ranked No. 21.

Released June 24, 2024, the subject-specific U.S. News’ Best Global Universities rankings assess reputation and academic research performance, including publications, books, conferences, citations and international collaborations. 

Between 2018-2022—which is the time period U.S. News used for its rankings methodology—NC State faculty published or co-published 515 articles related to education in peer-reviewed journals, including in the most highly regarded publications. In 2023-2024 alone, faculty in the College of Education held editorships of about 68 peer-reviewed journals; published over 105  journal articles, 35 book chapters and 10 books; presented over 520 research presentations; and were quoted over 50 times in local and national media outlets, including NPR, The New York Times, The Chronicle of Higher Education and Education Week. 

This was the second time that the education and educational research category was included in the U.S. News’ Best Global Universities rankings, which is now in its 10th iteration. For the 2024-2025 edition, U.S. News ranked 21,950 universities from around the world in 51 subjects. In the first Best Global Universities edition that included the education and educational research category, released in October 2022, NC State ranked No. 68 in the world and No. 1 in North Carolina.
