College of Education Ranked #31 in US News’ 2024 Best Graduate Schools; Educational Administration Ranked #1 in NC

The NC State College of Education is tied at No. 31 in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Graduate Schools rankings released April 25, 2023, placing the College of Education among the top 7% in the nation among both public and private universities. In U.S. News’ education specialty category, the college’s educational leadership program tied at No. 19 in the nation and was ranked No. 1 in North Carolina in the Educational Administration category.

For its 2024 edition, U.S. News surveyed 457 schools and ranked them based on research activity (research expenditures and average expenditures per faculty member); quality assessment (peer and educational professional assessments); faculty resources (doctoral degrees granted, faculty-student ratio, faculty with awards, and doctorates granted-faculty ratio); and acceptance rate. This year, U.S. News’ ranking factor weights placed “an increased emphasis on research and faculty resources, and a reduced emphasis on reputation and admissions selections.”

As reported by U.S. News, the College of Education’s faculty and researchers had $29.5 million funded in 2022—the most of any college of education in North Carolina. The college also awarded more doctorates than any college of education in North Carolina in 2021-22. 

In October 2022, NC State was ranked No. 68 in the world in the education and educational research category in U.S. News’s Best Global Universities Subject Rankings, making it the top globally ranked university for this field of study in North Carolina. 

The College of Education also tied at No. 30 in the nation in U.S. News’ 2023 Best Online Master’s in Education Programs rankings announced Jan. 24, 2023.
