DeCuir-Gunby to Receive NC State Alumni Association Outstanding Research Award

RALEIGH, N.C. — The NC State University Alumni Association will present Jessica DeCuir-Gunby with its 2018-2019 Alumni Association Outstanding Research Award. Decuir-Gunby is a professor of educational psychology and director of graduate programs in the NC State College of Education.

Every year, the Alumni Association honors faculty who excel in the classroom, laboratory and the field. DeCuir-Gunby will receive recognition during an awards ceremony later this month designed to celebrate faculty dedication to NC State’s core values—teaching, research and extension. She is one of four new awardees receiving this honor.

She received her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. Her research primarily focuses on race and racial identity; research methods; and emotions and education. She explores how issues of race and racism impact African Americans across the lifespan and in various educational contexts.

DeCuir-Gunby was an inaugural recipient of the NC State University Faculty Scholar Award in 2013. Also, she was recognized by the University of Georgia’s College of Education with its 2015-16 Alumni Outstanding Educator Award.
