Associate Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Lisa Bass has been selected to serve a three-year term as an inaugural faculty fellow of the Initiative for Race Research and Justice at Vanderbilt University.

The Initiative for Race Research and Justice brings together research and researchers in partnership with communities to build upon transdisciplinary perspectives in conducting high-quality research on race to develop resources and tools.

“To be positioned to work with talented like-minded scholars, such as will be part of this incredible initiative, means that I will be able to be part of a dynamic team that tackles tough questions and one that poses difficult questions and arrives at credible solutions,” Bass said. “Of all the scholars that could have been selected at this time, I was chosen. I will work hard to do my best to make the best of this opportunity and to grow in new and exciting ways both as a person and as a scholar!”

As a faculty fellow, Bass said she is looking forward to exploring new research methodologies while also developing relationships with fellow scholars and bringing that experience into her own research work in the College of Education.

“I hope to take part in answering long-standing questions and devising conceptual frameworks and solutions to age-old problems plaguing our field,” she said. “I hope to forge relationships that will endure throughout my career. I look forward to continuing the conversations that were started during the fellowship and leveraging these conversations to go to the next level as a racial equity scholar.”
