In middle school, Wolfpack Wrestling redshirt sophomore Chase Horne noticed the impact good teachers and coaches can make on students’ lives.

It’s why, when the four-time Georgia state wrestling champion came to NC State University to compete at the collegiate level, he decided to major in middle grades English language arts and social studies education

“I’ve seen kids who have so much potential in life, either academics- or athletics-wise,” Horne said. “If you care about them, and you actually invest in them, and you help them out, you can change this person’s life.”

Horne was recently recognized for his passion for education when he was awarded an ACC Dr. Pepper Go Teach Scholarship. The $2,500 scholarships are granted to just 15 ACC student-athletes each year and are designed to support recipients’ aspirations in the field of education.

Horne will be able to use the money to pursue his goal of becoming a coach and middle school teacher in his home state of Georgia.
