Goodnight Scholars Program: Tell us a little bit about yourself

Hannah Morris ’25: My name is Hannah Morris and I am a Middle Grades Math Education major from Knightdale, NC! In my free time I love to hang out with friends, go back home and visit my family, play sports (basketball and volleyball are my favorites), and watch movies (Remember the Titans, Shrek, and The Help are some of my favorites). Growing up I always felt called to be a teacher. Both of my parents are in education – my mom is a principal and my dad is a teacher and coach. Seeing them impact the lives of so many kids and families growing up has instilled in me a desire to do the same. I am a passionate advocate for all people and I love to help others find success doing something they enjoy. I am currently exploring my options for a secondary major and/or a minor, and I am not certain that teaching will be my final career destination.  However, I am confident that regardless of my chosen career path,  I will always look for opportunities to serve others.

If you had to summarize your personality in one sentence, what would it say?

I would say that I am an outgoing, thoughtful, hardworking, optimistic person who keeps service at the heart of everything I do.

Tell us about an accomplishment leading up to your time at NC State that you are proud of?

Before I began my college search, I was aware that my options would be limited by the costs associated with attendance at any school to which I applied. Having two parents who work in the field of education and two younger siblings at home created a situation in which I needed to explore every possible scholarship opportunity I could find.  With this in mind, I spent countless hours applying for multiple scholarships and was beyond blessed to be offered over $500,000 in scholarship earnings, including the Goodnight Scholarship.  Words cannot express the gratitude I have in my heart for the Goodnight’s (and all the other funding sources who had enough faith in me to extend these offers), and I consider it my duty to always do my best to meet their expectations in everything that I do.

What were you most looking forward to joining the Class of 2025 at NC State and the Class of 2025 in the Goodnight Scholars Program?

Once I learned about the Goodnight Scholars program, I knew NC State was the place for me. NC State offers the large school community and diverse student population that I knew I wanted to experience in college, while also offering a multitude of opportunities to get connected with smaller communities so that it feels like a home away from home. This is one of the things I love most about the Goodnight Scholars program and why I was most excited to meet my cohort and Pro Staff in person. It is almost like an extended family, and I am looking forward to making many memories with this group over the next few years that I know will last a lifetime.

How would you describe your first semester so far at NC State?

While my first semester at NC State is just getting underway, I believe in speaking things into existence. It has been (and will continue to be) an amazing experience.  I have already grown so much during my time here and I look forward to continuing to grow in my faith, in my ability to manage my time, and in my willingness to set healthy boundaries for myself so that I can give my all to every commitment I make.

What Goodnight Scholars Programming event are you most excited about this semester?

I am excited for our in-person All Goodnight Meeting as well as the Goodnight Gala at the end of the year!

Looking 3.5 years down the road, describe the Hannah you want to see at graduation from NC State in 2025?

In 3.5 years I hope to see a Hannah who is leaving fulfilled by her time at NC State. I want to graduate feeling good about the legacy I am leaving behind for the rest of the Pack and the Goodnight Scholars for many years to come.  I want to be able to say that I put my all into everything I did and made the most of every opportunity given to me during my time at NC State. I hope to see a confident and courageous woman who is ready to begin the next chapter of her life during which she will positively impact the lives of everyone around her through whatever it is that she chooses to do!
