Scholarship Support Helped Sarah Schuetz ’21MED Prepare for School Counseling Career Through Hands-on Experiences, Earn Her Master’s Degree

Sarah Schuetz ’21MED always enjoyed working with children and adolescents. But it was her experience as a member of Camp Kesem while an undergraduate that changed her life and her career journey. Wanting to incorporate psychology and counseling within a school setting, Schuetz enrolled in the school counseling program, where scholarship support helped her earn her master’s degree and prepared her to become a successful school counselor.

N.C. Council for the Social Studies Student Teacher of the Year Talia Laing ’20MAT Hopes to Facilitate Diplomatic Discussion and Create Opportunities in Her Classroom for Students To View Historical and Contemporary Issues from Other Perspectives

As an undergraduate student studying archaeology, Talia Laing ’20MAT had the opportunity to participate in overseas excavations, which magnified her love of history. She plans to bring those experiences into her future classroom, teaching students how to learn history from different angles -- a philosophy that helped earn her the 2020-2021 N.C. Council for the Social Studies Student Teacher of the Year honor.

With an interest in engineering, Wolfpack track and field student athlete Junpai Dowdy ’21 chose the technology, engineering, and design education program because he said it provided him with a more practical and hands-on experience that emphasized the use of technology.

Stiff, Ph.D. And for the past 11 years, he’s been a professor of math education.

When the coronavirus pandemic hit in March 2020, spring and summer sports seasons, including the 2020 Olympic Games, were canceled or postponed. This forced Wolfpack swimmer and College of Education senior Ky-Lee Perry ’21 to make a decision -- retire from swimming or become a professional athlete.
