Lara-Cate Wright ’24: ‘Every Child Deserves Someone Who Believes in Them and Cheers Them On’

Lara-Cate Wright has fond memories of the relationships she built with her teachers as an elementary school student; so much so that she was inspired to become an elementary school teacher herself. Now, as this N.C. Teaching Fellow graduates with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a special education add-on licensure, she is looking forward to returning to her community in Dare County to teach third grade.

Meet Lara-Cate:

Hometown: Wanchese, NC

Degree: Elementary Education with Special Education Add-On Licensure

Why did you choose the NC State College of Education?

I chose the College of Education based on their top ratings of education preparatory programs in the nation and the sense of community that I experienced at the open house events.

Why did you choose your concentration?

I aspired to be one of the energetic, passionate and genuinely kind teachers who left a lasting impact on me during elementary school. I remembered the relationships I built with my former elementary school teachers and wanted to create that same meaningful connection with my students.

What’s your next step? What do you have planned after graduation?

I will be teaching third grade in Dare County. I am excited to give back to the community that I was raised in.

How has the College of Education prepared you for that next step?

The College of Education has given me so many invaluable learning experiences. Between the wealth of knowledge shared from the professors in my methods courses, to the hands-on field experience opportunities I was given, I feel more than ready to go into the classroom. The College of Education holds their students to high standards which, in return, leads to the production of great educators.

What do you eventually hope to accomplish in your field?

I aspire to be an advocate not only for students in my classroom but also an advocate for my colleagues and a leader within my school.

Why did you choose education?

I chose education because every child deserves someone who believes in them and cheers them on. I am passionate about learning and want to instill that same passion in younger learners.
