NC State Online and Distance Education: Michelle Bartlett on Master of Education in Training and Development

NC State’s College of Education offers eight fully online master’s programs to better accommodate working adults. One of those programs is the Master of Education in Training and Development.

We recently spoke with Michelle Bartlett, the online and distance education coordinator of the program, to learn more about the program and who may benefit from it.

Who is the program designed for?

The Master of Education in Training and Development program is designed for entering or experienced training professionals who work in internal or external training positions within business and learning environments. It is primarily designed for working adults completing graduate studies on a part-time basis, however, can accommodate full-time students who wish to complete the program quickly.

What will students learn?

The curriculum incorporates advanced understandings and skills in program design and the applications of learning theory by incorporating research and practice principles. Core principles of the program include adult learning, emphasizing interaction, collaboration and team learning.

What are the benefits?

The program helps professionals seeking to further their careers because students are exposed to fundamental foundations as well as innovative best practices, technologies and tools for entering the workforce with the needed skills to be a high-quality hire.

The online experience will give students opportunities to apply what they have learned. The program is purposefully designed to have assignments with practical application and is intended to help students enhance their resumés, be exposed to innovative technologies and be given opportunities to network so that they can be prepared to enter the workforce.

Career Opportunities

Career opportunities can include instructional design, analyzing training needs, designing, consulting, e-learning or other training roles in a wide variety of areas including, but not limited to, healthcare, hospitality, technology and higher education institutions.

Application and Admissions

The program is on a rolling admissions process, allowing for students to apply at any time. Students who are admitted will begin their studies only during Fall and Summer semesters.The application deadline for the Fall semester is July 15 and the deadline for Summer is April 15. The program will add a Managing Learning Programs course in Spring 2018. This course will allow the master’s program to touch on all 10 areas of the Association of Talent Development (ATD) core competency model.
