An Inside Look at Teaching in Eastern North Carolina

The NC State College of Education’s We Teach for NC Spring Break trip offered a group of 24 undergraduate students the opportunity to experience a typical day inside Eastern North Carolina high schools and meet with administrators, teachers and county officials in Craven, Lenoir, Onslow and Wayne counties.

Teaching Fellow Erin Lisi on Building a Curriculum Based on “Cabaret”

Meet Erin Lisi: senior science education major and N.C. Teaching Fellow who designed a curriculum for high school students to explore themes like creative expression, personal ethics and minority oppression in the 1966 musical “Cabaret” -- and to ask themselves, “How can art help me?”

Lynley Wentzel, a doctoral student in the NC State College of Education's Adult and Community College program, is using her knowledge of education theory and human behavior to craft a training program for faculty and staff eager to learn NC State's new Research Enterprise Data system.

8 NC State Education Doctoral Students Named 2019 DREAM Fellows

Eight doctoral students from the NC State College of Education’s Adult and Community College program attended Achieving the Dream’s annual conference as DREAM Fellows Feb. 19-21, 2019. DREAM Fellows provide the organization with deeper feedback about the conference as well as detailed observations about emerging trends and issues that can enhance the organization’s work in student success.

Empowering a Global Perspective

Mary Ann Danowitz, dean of NC State’s College of Education, has established a study abroad award fund to benefit future education professionals – and their students. The scholarship’s first awardee, Chantal Warfield, fulfilled her study abroad goals by traveling to the United Kingdom for a five-week STEM and liberal studies program.

Knocking It Out of the Park: A Playground Capstone Project

Assistant Professor Tamecia Jones created a playground capstone project for her TDE 481 students to blend their technical skills with the research methods they learned in her class last semester. See the innovative designs they brought to life using Poe Hall’s workshop and Makerspace.

Vandna Bindra ’18PHD: “I Hope to. . .Conduct Innovative Research that has Practical Applications for Educators and Students”

As a high school English teacher, Vandna Bindra ’18PHD discovered her own commitment to lifelong learning as she helped her students flourish in the classroom. Now as she’s set to graduate with her doctoral degree, she hopes to link research to practice to build curricula and mentorship programs that promote positive identity and moral development for educators and students alike.

Dylan Stoneham ’18MED: Helping Others Succeed in Their Careers

As his career progressed, Dylan discovered a natural draw to training processes at the organization level. He wanted to explore how training opportunities not only created better working environments but how they empower employees. Now, he prepares to graduate with a master’s degree in Training and Development to help others gain the skills they need to succeed in their careers.
