College of Education Students Share Words of Appreciation, Thanks for Faculty and Staff During Global Advising Week

NC State College of Education students are showing their gratitude for faculty and staff this week in celebration of Global Advising Week, which runs from May 2-8. In recognition of the week set aside to celebrate the work of advisors, tutors, counselors and coaches around the world, NC State established the “Thank an Advisor” program to recognize outstanding advisors who go the extra mile to shape students through their mentorship and dedication.

For Girls, Learning Science Outside Linked to Better Grades, Knowledge

In a new study, North Carolina State University researchers found that an outdoor science program was linked to higher average science grades and an increase in a measure of science knowledge for a group of fifth grade girls in North Carolina.

NC State College of Education Awarded Over $1M in Research Funding October-December, 2020

Faculty and researchers at the NC State College of Education, including the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, were awarded $1,048,844 to support seven projects from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, 2020. Total amounts reflect only the funding that was directly awarded to College of Education faculty and researchers.

Associate Professor Sarah Carrier to Help Teachers Implement Citizen Science Projects in Elementary School Classrooms Through NSF-funded Project

Citizen science projects, when successfully implemented in elementary school classrooms, can give students an opportunity to engage in authentic data collection that provides important information for professional scientists to use in their work. However, teachers often lack support for integrating these lessons into their existing curriculum. Associate Professor Sarah Carrier, Ph.D., is working to address this issue through a four-year, $1.9 million project funded by the National Science Foundation in partnership with Horizon Research, Inc.
