7 College of Education Graduates Recognized With 2021 Ed Council Outstanding Senior Awards

Seven graduates, representing each undergraduate academic program, were recognized as recipients of the Education Council Outstanding Senior Awards for their distinguished service, academics and leadership, during the college’s May 2021 Virtual Graduation Ceremony.

Middle Grades English Language Arts and Social Studies Education Student and Wolfpack Swimmer Ky-Lee Perry ’21: ‘I Love Working With Children. I Want to Learn From Them Just as They Want to Learn From Me’

When the coronavirus pandemic hit in March 2020, spring and summer sports seasons, including the 2020 Olympic Games, were canceled or postponed. This forced Wolfpack swimmer and College of Education senior Ky-Lee Perry ’21 to make a decision -- retire from swimming or become a professional athlete.

Scholarship Support Made it Possible for Cheyenne Quarless ’21 to Attend the NC State College of Education and Earn Her Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Grades Education

As the recipient of the Paul and Geneva Jenkins Scholarship and the Dr. Estelle E. White Scholarship, Cheyenne Quarless ’21 was able to attend the NC State College of Education. She will graduate this May with a degree in middle grades English Language Arts and social studies education.

Meet James Daniels ’21: ‘I Want to Teach Because Students Deserve to Learn How to Embrace Their Identities’

James Daniels ’21 wants to cultivate youth voices by teaching them how to embrace their identities. His involvement in the College of Education has prepared him to do just that, and he will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in middle grades English Language Arts and social studies education in May 2021.

As the child of an Air Force airman, Candy Beal, Ed.D., moved every three years. She attended six different schools in three different countries before graduating from high school. Her experiences in various school environments and around the world have influenced her teaching as an associate professor of middle grades education in the College of Education.

Amaya Dicker ’21 always enjoyed working with students, leading her to participate in the Students Advocating for Youth (SAY) Village. Through her experience with SAY, she realized her passion for education and is now pursuing a career as a middle grades English language arts and social studies teacher.
