Youth Authors Share Their Stories at Literacy and Community Initiative 2021 Reading Celebration

Student-authors who have published stories as part of the Literacy and Community Initiative had an opportunity to make their voices heard during the Literacy and Community Initiative (LCI) 2021 Reading Celebration held April 23. NC State College of Education Assistant Professor and Friday Institute Faculty Fellow Crystal Chen Lee, Ed.D., directs LCI.

With Help of Literacy and Community Initiative, Directed by Assistant Professor Crystal Chen Lee, High School Students with Juntos N.C. Publish Peer-reviewed Article

Like many academics, Crystal Chen Lee, Ed.D., an assistant professor of English Language Arts education in the NC State College of Education, said she didn’t publish her first peer-reviewed academic article until she was in her late 20s and earning her doctorate degree. Through her work as the director of the Literacy and Community Initiative (LCI) though, she has now helped a group of students author a peer-reviewed article while they were still teenagers.
