8 NC State Education Doctoral Students Named 2019 DREAM Fellows

Eight doctoral students from the NC State College of Education’s Adult and Community College program attended Achieving the Dream’s annual conference as DREAM Fellows Feb. 19-21, 2019. DREAM Fellows provide the organization with deeper feedback about the conference as well as detailed observations about emerging trends and issues that can enhance the organization’s work in student success.

Encouraging More Men to Teach Elementary Education

Graduate student Stephen McKinney believes he will have the opportunity to change kids’ lives forever as an elementary educator. And he wants more men to feel that way, too. He was recently awarded funding from the NC State University Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity to develop the idea and framework for a program that will create avenues for men, especially those of color, to enter the field of elementary education.

Vandna Bindra ’18PHD: “I Hope to. . .Conduct Innovative Research that has Practical Applications for Educators and Students”

As a high school English teacher, Vandna Bindra ’18PHD discovered her own commitment to lifelong learning as she helped her students flourish in the classroom. Now as she’s set to graduate with her doctoral degree, she hopes to link research to practice to build curricula and mentorship programs that promote positive identity and moral development for educators and students alike.
