The NC State College of Education kicked off American Education Week 2019 on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Pack’s Educator Appreciation Day football game versus Louisville. During the game, several of the NC State College of Education’s alumni and students were recognized on the field and all alumni and other educators were honored. Here’s a look back at the night.

Distinguished Alumni and Award-Winning Alumni Recognized on the Field
NC State Athletics recognized on-the-field several of the college’s distinguished alumni, as well as alumni who received national, statewide and districtwide awards over the past year. They were, pictured from left to right:
- Former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education for Elementary and Secondary Education Henry Johnson ’90EDD,
- Former North Carolina State Superintendent and College of Education Chair Mike Ward ’77BS, ’81MS, ’93EDD,
- National School Psychologist of the Year Leigh Kokenes ’91 of the Wake County Public School System,
- Johnston County’s Outstanding First-Year Teacher Lance Atkinson ’18MAT,
- Durham County’s Teacher of the Year Brandon Daniel ’19MED,
- Wake County’s First-Year Teacher of the Year Cristina Chase Lane ’18,
- Wake County’s Teacher of the Year Lindsey Evans ’09, and
- Wake County’s Principal of the Year Will Chavis ’16EDD.
