I chose the NC State College of Education because of its strong national reputation in community college leadership, commitment to educational equity and its specialized Ed.D. program that directly aligned with my goal to dismantle systemic barriers for marginalized students. I pursued Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development because I wanted to create transformative change in higher education, addressing systemic inequities and improving outcomes for historically marginalized communities.
How has the College of Education prepared you for your next step?
NC State provided rigorous coursework, leadership training and research opportunities that deepened my understanding of equity-driven education. It empowered me to lead innovative programs and shape national conversations on educational reform.
Tell us about an experience you had with the College of Education that had the biggest impact on you:
Working closely with faculty on my dissertation exploring equity in rural community colleges profoundly impacted me. Their mentorship and support significantly enhanced my skills in strategic thinking, research and advocacy.
Why did you choose education?
As a first-generation graduate, education had a significant impact on my life. I decided to pursue a career in education to help students who are also dealing with challenges because I believe that education is crucial for promoting equity and improving communities. By empowering others through education, I can help them succeed based on their skills and abilities even when their backgrounds and identities are not seen as assets.
