Why did you choose the NC State College of Education?

Tthere were several factors. The most important was my advisor and their approachability. From my very first email, my advisor replied within minutes in a friendly, supportive and inspiring manner. I remember telling my family, “This is someone I want to learn from.” As I researched further, I discovered the vibrant community at NC State, where faculty, current students, and alumni were all incredibly supportive.

How has the College of Education prepared you for your next step?

I will be joining an R1 institution as a tenure-track assistant professor next fall. The College of Education has provided me with solid foundational knowledge in areas like learning theory, advanced research methodologies and pedagogical approaches. It also offered opportunities to develop essential skills, such as critical thinking, effective communication and academic writing. These experiences have prepared me to excel in my future academic role.

What do you eventually hope to accomplish in your field?

I aspire to build and lead a research community renowned for its high-quality work in transdisciplinary STEM education. My focus will be on implementing innovative learning experiences, enhancing access and equity in STEM education, and advancing our understanding of AI’s role in science education. Through this community, I hope to mentor students, conduct impactful outreach activities and improve learning opportunities and satisfaction for all students.

Tell us about an experience you had with the College of Education that had the biggest impact on you or your career.

If I had to choose one experience, it would be the delegation trip to Chile. Led by Dean [Paola] Sztajn and Associate Dean [for Research and Innovation Paola Sztajn], along with nine faculty members, we collaborated with leading universities and institutions in my home country. This trip allowed me to strengthen relationships between NC State and Chilean institutions while forging personal connections that have had a lasting impact on my career.

Why did you choose education?

Education has transformed my family’s life. I firmly believe that education is the most powerful engine for change. My goal is to make education more accessible and supportive for all students, fostering their success.
