Bruce Graham: ‘I Continue To Believe That Mathematical Literacy and, More Recently, Data Literacy Are Incredibly Important’

Bruce Graham, a doctoral student earning his Ph.D. in the Learning and Teaching in STEM Mathematics and Statistics Education concentration, wants to help students grow their data literacy skills by providing professional development for in-service teachers and engaging in mathematics teacher preparation.

Meet Bruce:

Most Meaningful Moment So Far: The opportunity to attend and present at my first national conference, where I was able to see the network I was working toward becoming a part of and finding my own connections in that network.

My Favorite Experience So Far: Being a graduate student ambassador. Having the opportunity to chat with new and prospective students as well as help celebrate the success of others are memories I am very fond of from my experience here at NC State.

Why I Still Want To Be An Educator: I still want to be an educator because I continue to believe that mathematical literacy and, more recently, data literacy are incredibly important, and that the best way for students to achieve this type of literacy is through providing quality training for pre- and in-service teachers.
Why I Love the College of Education: The people. Everyone is willing to be helpful or listen to your concerns. The faculty, staff and my fellow students are really what makes the College of Education feel like a space where I can grow and thrive.
