WRAL: Start Interventions Earlier to Improve Reading Skills

Trip Stallings, director of policy research at the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, says better interventions in earlier grades could help North Carolina make more progress in reading achievement. Stallings is part of a team of researchers from the NC State College of Education and the Friday Institute that released findings from a five-year study on the state's Read to Achieve program last year.

Dr. Carla C. Johnson Named Executive Director of Friday Institute and Associate Dean

Currently a special advisor to the dean of the Purdue Polytechnic Institute on P16 STEM, executive director of Indiana GEAR UP and professor of science education at Purdue University, Dr. Carla C. Johnson will begin as executive director of the Friday Institute and associate dean at the NC State College of Education July 1.

New NSF Project to Increase Student STEM Identity through e-Mentoring

A three-year, $1.2 million grant “Enhancing STEM Identity through e-Mentoring Experiences” will pair underrepresented high school students in rural school districts in North Carolina with near-peer mentors studying engineering at NC State University to increase identity, self-efficacy and value for STEM subject areas.
