#WhyIChoseEducation: Jessica Hunt

As part of Celebrating 90 Years of NC State Education, we asked you to share your stories of why you chose education and why you love the NC State College of Education. Below is one of the many stories we received demonstrating how we’re leading the way in education in North Carolina and beyond.

Name: Jessica Hunt
Career Role & Responsibilities: I am faculty in the College of Education at NC State University.

Why did you enter the field of education?
Knowledge is power. As special education teachers, we are gifted with the responsibility of remaking the world a ”just” place, one generation at a time. I chose education because it is my duty to empower students with disabilities and their teachers with critical thinking skills, not just so they can understand mathematics, but so they also understand the world around them, participate in it, and continually make it better. In these ways, I support and empower students and teachers by facilitating building blocks of confidence, problem-solving, connections, and curiosity.

Why did you choose to earn your degree from the NC State College of Education?
