#WhyIChoseEducation: Brittany Weaver

As part of Celebrating 90 Years of NC State Education, we asked you to share your stories of why you chose education and why you love the NC State College of Education. Below is one of the many stories we received demonstrating how we’re leading the way in education in North Carolina and beyond.

Name: Brittany Weaver
Graduation Year: 2011
Program: Science Education
Career Role & Responsibilities: I currently teach at Southern Nash high school in Bailey, North Carolina. I teach earth/environmental science and biology. I also coach JV cheerleading.

Why did you enter the field of education?
I entered the education field because I knew from a very early age that I wanted to do something that would change peoples lives. I have always had a passion for helping others and love the feeling that comes from helping a student accomplish their “impossible.” I was blessed enough to have some outstanding teachers as I was growing up and their passion for their work and genuine love for their students helped guide me to my decision to teach.

Why did you choose to earn your degree from the NC State College of Education?
I chose NC State because from the moment I stepped on campus it felt like home. No other campus I have ever visited had the feeling that NC State gave (and still gives) me. Every faculty member in the College of Education welcomed me with open arms. I can still remember leaving after my very first campus visit and thinking this is where I’m going to spend my next four years. Something about NC State is magical, and the warm, genuine and knowledgeable faculty truly make the campus feel like so much more than a school. The College of Education was most definitely like a second family. My choice to attend NC State was one of the best I have ever made. The memories and friendships made will last a lifetime, and I would make my choice 1,000 times over. I love the Wolfpack and my College of Education family.
