#WhyIChoseEducation: Carla Huff

As part of Celebrating 90 Years of NC State Education, we asked you to share your stories of why you chose education and why you love the NC State College of Education. Below is one of the many stories we received demonstrating how we’re leading the way in education in North Carolina and beyond.

Name: Carla Huff
Graduation Year: 2011
Program: Special Education
Career Role & Responsibilities: Alliance Behavioral Healthcare – I support family members who are the parent and/or caregiver of a child who is receiving mental health services. I support them by assisting them with advocating for their child and ensuring that his or her overall well-being is being supported both in the academic and community setting.

Why did you enter the field of education?
I worked as a Juvenile Court Counselor for years and recognized that students were “falling through the cracks” for a variety of reasons. I decided that by being in the classroom I could maximize my time spent with students and build long-lasting relationships that would go far beyond the teaching of a particular subject.

Why did you choose to earn your degree from the NC State College of Education?
I am a Wolfpack fan through and through. I cannot seem to get enough of NC State as I have graduated from this wonderful school three separate times. GO PACK!
