#WhyIChoseEducation: Haley Kerr

As part of Celebrating 90 Years of NC State Education, we asked you to share your stories of why you chose education and why you love the NC State College of Education. Below is one of the many stories we received demonstrating how we’re leading the way in education in North Carolina and beyond.

Name: Haley Kerr
Graduation Year:
 2010
Program: Middle Grade Language Arts and Social Studies (TELS)
Career Role & Responsibilities: 6th Grade ELA AIG Teacher, Parkwood Middle School (Monroe, N.C.)

Why did you enter the field of education?
I entered education because of all the teachers who impacted me in my years of school. They taught me things from how to love reading, how to deal with life, and how to be a good person. The lessons I learned were so much more than curriculum because I had teachers who loved their students and loved what they do. I wanted to also do something and be a world changer.

Why did you choose to earn your degree from the NC State College of Education?
When the opportunity arose, I decided to run with it. It was the best decision I have ever made!
