Application Deadline for NC Teaching Fellows Program Extended to 1/21

The application deadline for the North Carolina Teaching Fellows have been extended until midnight, Tuesday, Jan. 21. The NC State College of Education is one of five schools within North Carolina to host a Teaching Fellows program, and is home to the largest cohort of fellows in the state.

Melissa Franch ’12: ‘Skills I Developed During Teaching Have Transferred Naturally to the Research Environment and Continue to Help Me Become a Successful Scientist’

After earning a double major in science education and biological sciences from NC State and teaching high school biology for three years, Melissa Franch ’12 is pursuing a Ph.D. in neuroscience and conducting research on the neural correlates of social behavior such as cooperation. Her older brother, who has nonverbal autism, and her father, an environmental scientist, inspired her interest in science.

As a biology and physical science lateral entry teacher at Athens Drive High School, Alexandra van Dorsten ’19MAT chose NC State’s College of Education to earn her teaching license. At the end of May, she will move to Ghana to teach science as a Peace Corps volunteer.

NC State College of Education Moves Up 8 Spots in World University Rankings, Ranked No. 84 Internationally 

NC State University has been ranked No. 84 in the world in the 2020 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings’ list of best colleges for education degrees. That is a jump of eight spots from last year when NC State debuted in the education category at No. 92 in the world.
