If it weren’t for financial support, Kyanna “Kay” Sumpter ‘22 would not be at NC State pursuing her dream of being an elementary education teacher with dual licensure in special education. Because of that support, she pays it forward by giving whenever she can.

Singer. Songwriter. Guitarist. Artist. Volunteer. Aspiring teacher. These are just a few words to describe middle grades education major Helena Boehling ’21. As one of nine children, financial support has made it possible for Boehling to pursue her passions and prepare for a life serving youth.

Melissa Franch ’12: ‘Skills I Developed During Teaching Have Transferred Naturally to the Research Environment and Continue to Help Me Become a Successful Scientist’

After earning a double major in science education and biological sciences from NC State and teaching high school biology for three years, Melissa Franch ’12 is pursuing a Ph.D. in neuroscience and conducting research on the neural correlates of social behavior such as cooperation. Her older brother, who has nonverbal autism, and her father, an environmental scientist, inspired her interest in science.

Empowering a Global Perspective

Mary Ann Danowitz, dean of NC State’s College of Education, has established a study abroad award fund to benefit future education professionals – and their students. The scholarship’s first awardee, Chantal Warfield, fulfilled her study abroad goals by traveling to the United Kingdom for a five-week STEM and liberal studies program. 

The college had a record year of giving in 2018.

With 1K+ Donors, NC State College of Education Has Record Year of Giving in 2017-18

The NC State College of Education received gifts totaling $4,680,964 from 1,047 donors during fiscal year 2017-18. The number of donors is the highest total the college has had in a single year in its 90-year history, and the dollar amount in gifts is the most since at least 2003.
