Friday Institute’s PEER Group Acting Director Callie Edwards ’18PHD Receives NC State’s Award for Excellence for Human Relations

Callie Womble Edwards '18PHD, acting director of the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation’s Program Evaluation and Education Research (PEER) Group, has been awarded NC State’s Award for Excellence for Human Relations for her work creating a diverse, welcoming workplace for staff and students. This is the second year in a row that a staff member in the NC State College of Education has won NC State’s Award for Excellence.

A three-year, $1.2 million grant “Enhancing STEM Identity through e-Mentoring Experiences” will pair underrepresented high school students in rural school districts in North Carolina with near-peer mentors studying engineering at NC State University to increase identity, self-efficacy and value for STEM subject areas.

Living and Learning in SAY Village

Residents of NC State College of Education’s Students Advocating for Youth (SAY) Living and Learning Village help local elementary, middle and high schoolers tackle bullying, self-esteem and academic obstacles while building friendships and life skills of their own in historic Syme Hall.
