NC State College of Education Awarded $13.2M in Research Funding January-March 2020

Faculty and researchers at the NC State College of Education, including the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, were awarded $13,260,745 to support 10 projects from Jan. 24 through March 24, 2020.

Friday Institute Senior Faculty Fellow Carla C. Johnson Expands Online Learning Opportunities for K-12 Educators with New Grant from Institute of Education Sciences

 Carla C. Johnson, Ph.D., a senior faculty fellow with the NC State College of Education’s Friday Institute for Educational Innovation and a professor of science education in the college, will develop and study two new Professional Learning Online Modules (PLOM) for educators through a recently funded, two-year grant.

Associate Professor Jessica Hunt to Develop Game to Help Students with Learning Disabilities Understand Fractions, Explore STEM Careers

Building upon a series of tasks she developed through a National Science Foundation CAREER grant, Associate Professor Jessica Hunt, Ph.D., will use a new, $1.4 million NSF grant to develop a game to help students with learning disabilities understand fractions through real-world applications.

Associate Professor Jessica Hunt Aims to Help Students with Learning Disabilities Make Sense of Fractions using NSF CAREER Award

Jessica Hunt, an associate professor of mathematics education and special education at the NC State College of Education, believes all students deserve the space to reason about and appreciate themselves within mathematics, which is why she is using her NSF CAREER award to study how best to help students with learning disabilities understand fractions. Her project is part of the STEM for All Video Showcase being held May 13-20.

Associate Professor Jessica Hunt Receives National Outstanding Publication Award from NCTM

Jessica Hunt, associate professor of mathematics education and special education at the NC State College of Education, received the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Linking Research and Practice Outstanding Publication Award at the council’s annual conference held April 3-6, 2019.

A new collaboration between Jessica Hunt, an associate professor of mathematics education and special education, and the Center for Geospatial Analytics will use games and urban design to teach mathematics in middle school classrooms.

4 NC State Education Faculty Receive DELTA 2018-2019 Grants

DELTA awarded more than $240,000 in new and continuing DELTA Grants to 29 recipients across the NC State University, including four in the NC State College of Education: Michelle Bartlett, Jessica Hunt, Jamie Pearson and Meghan Manfra. They will collaborate with DELTA to create solutions to instructional challenges that promote the use of instructional technology and course design.
