During nearly 15 years of teaching science methods courses, Associate Professor James Minogue, Ph.D., has noticed that many aspiring elementary school teachers tend to shy away from teaching science because they seem to believe that they need to be an expert in all areas of science in order to teach it well. He tries to dispel this idea for them on the first day of class.

College of Education Students Share Words of Appreciation, Thanks for Faculty and Staff During Global Advising Week

NC State College of Education students are showing their gratitude for faculty and staff this week in celebration of Global Advising Week, which runs from May 2-8. In recognition of the week set aside to celebrate the work of advisors, tutors, counselors and coaches around the world, NC State established the “Thank an Advisor” program to recognize outstanding advisors who go the extra mile to shape students through their mentorship and dedication.

NC State Education Receives $7M+ in Research Grants Between July and November 2018

Minogue Receives NSF Grant to Reimagine Physics Teaching in Preservice Educators

Associate Professor James Minogue will receive $733,000 over three years as part of a National Science Foundation (NSF) EHR Core Research grant entitled “Preservice Educators Reimagining Core Experiences in Physics Teaching (PERCEPT).” The grant targets two focal areas of the EHR Core Research program: STEM learning and learning environment and STEM workforce development.

NC State Education Researchers Receive $1.5 Million NSF Grant to Implement Science Learning Environments

NC State Education Professor and Principal Investigator John Nietfeld will receive a $1.5 million National Science Foundation grant for a three-year project entitled A Learning Environment to Support Comprehension Monitoring with Informational Science Text. Education Associate Professor James Minogue serves as a Research Associate and Design Associate Professor Marc Russo serves as a co-PI on this project.
