College of Education Doctoral Students Prepare to Become Leaders in Special Education through Participation in SPARC Consortium

Three students in the NC State College of Education have recently completed the first year of their doctoral studies through funding provided by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) to establish the Special Education Teacher Education Policy, Practice, and Research Doctoral Training Consortium (SPARC), one of two consortiums funded by OSEP.

Joy Gaston Gayles, head of the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development and an Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professor of Higher Education in NC State’s College of Education, has been named chair-elect of NC State’s Research Leadership Academy (RLA).

Community Counseling, Education, and Research Center (CCERC) Offers Accessible Mental Health Services While Training Master’s Students

Since 2016, the College of Education's Community Counseling, Education, and Research Center (CCERC) — led by Professor Marc Grimmett — has provided mental health services throughout North Carolina while simultaneously providing training experience for master’s students in the Counselor Education program who are completing a practicum and internship in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. In this video, four past clients share how access to mental health services through CCERC has made a difference in their lives.

College of Education Launches Fifth Interdisciplinary Research Hub Focused on Improving Teacher Retention

In line with its Strategic Plan: 2023-2030, the NC State College of Education has launched a fifth Interdisciplinary Research Hub. The hub, entitled, “Improving Teacher Retention in North Carolina (ITR-NC),” will join other hubs established in 2023 and 2024 in finding innovative solutions to pressing educational problems by bringing together individuals from different units and disciplines.

NC State Researchers to Develop Students’ Data Acumen with $1.1M NSF Grant

A three-year, $1.1 million project funded by the National Science Foundation’s Data Science Corps program will enable NC State researchers to leverage partnerships between data scientists, researchers, data science education experts and teachers to develop high school students’ data acumen, decision making using data and use of data tools.
