2022 Friday Medal to Honor Two Leaders in Education Research and Practice Together for the First Time

The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation has selected James A. Banks, the Kerry and Linda Killinger Endowed Chair in Diversity Studies Emeritus at the University of Washington College of Education and founding director of the Banks Center for Educational Justice, and Joann Blumenfeld, founder and program director for Catalyst at The Science House, to receive its 2022 Friday Medal award. For the first time, the Friday Institute has decided to honor both a practitioner and researcher within the same year.

Report: NC State Largest Producer of Mathematics Education Doctorates in N.C., 5th Largest in U.S.

The NC State College of Education is the largest producer of doctoral graduates in mathematics education in North Carolina and the fifth largest producer in the nation, according to a new independent report published in the Notices of the American Mathematical Society. The same report also found that the program No. 12 in the nation among peer recommendations.

In the 2019 THE World University Rankings, NC State was ranked No. 92 in the world.

NC State Education Ranked in Top 100 in THE World University Rankings

NC State University has been ranked No. 92 in the world for education degrees in the 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. This is the first time NC State has been ranked in the education subject area since the World University Rankings added the category last year. “This international ranking reflects the extraordinary advancements the NC State College of Education has made to become one of the leading colleges of education in the U.S. and now the world,” NC State College of Education Dean Mary Ann Danowitz said.

Soonhye Park, an associate professor of STEM education at the NC State College of Education, has been selected as University Faculty Scholar. This program recognizes and rewards emerging academic leaders at NC State University who conduct research that address pressing issues.
