Tes: Pupils Perform Better with Teachers of the Same Race and Sex, Research Suggests

Children are more likely to try harder and aim higher in school if their teachers are from the same demographic group, research by NC State College of Education Assistant Professor Anna Egalite and Brian Kisida of the University of Missouri shows.

The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity has awarded 2017-18 Diversity Mini-Grants to faculty and staff leading 11 projects across the NC State campus, including three in the NC State College of Education.

College Magazine Ranks NC State No. 9 in Nation for Education Majors

College Magazine lists NC State University as one of the 10 best colleges for education majors in the U.S. in rankings the publication released Dec. 12. NC State is ranked No. 9 in the nation, and is the only school in North Carolina included on the list.

NC State Education Graduates 163 Friday, Dec. 15

The commencement ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, and will be held in the McKimmon Center’s Room 2. The ceremony will also be livestreamed on NC State Education’s Facebook page.

Applications Open for N.C. Teaching Fellows Program

Students accepted into the program will receive up to $8,250 per year in forgivable loans if they commit to teach in the fields of science, technology, engineering, math or special education in the North Carolina public schools. Applications close Jan. 16, 2018.

John K. Lee Named Head of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences

John K. Lee, Ph.D., will be the permanent head of the NC State College of Education’s Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences, effective Jan. 1. He has served as the interim head since January 2017 and has been a faculty member with the NC State College of Education for 11 years.
